One 20min Opera

Dr. Anita Gonzalez and I teamed up to create a one-act opera exploring the Black is Beautiul culturemaker, Kwame Brathwaite, and one of his Grandassa models, a young woman named Clara Lewis.

Skill-Development

Between music workshops, we work to free up and channel our creative energy through acting, improv, and storytelling exercises.

Tenor

Buon Appetito

Cody is a pizza delivery guy from Long Island with big dreams and an even bigger chip on his shoulder. After studying at a prestigious culinary institute in Siccily, Illinois, he's returned to his day job delivering sub-par pies back home. He's mad, he's a failure, and he's making it everyone else's problem.

Performed by Brian Jeffers & Kelly Horsted// Libretto by Melisa Tien

Baritone

QBot Feels Something

QBOT is an artificial intelligence compiled from the data of others and created to perform menial tasks. One day, they experience a glitch in their programming: positive energy overwhelms them. They struggle to figure out what this feeling is, but know it must be sigificant. Perhaps it will lead them to new knowledge, or even others who experience the same thing.

Performed by Phillip Bullock & Kelly Horsted // Libretto by Andi Lee Carter

Coloratura Soprano

Daybroken

The sun quit the sky during the annual Sun Pageant, and this small, rural town has been plunged into a darkness they take responsibility for. Grasping for any logic and losing hope, ELLA wanders off into the darkness with her infant daughter to grieve. As she is about to give up completely, a shooting star arcs across the sky: is it the sun? Is it coming back? Because of her song? Daybroken is part of a full-length opera-in-development in collaboration with Lauren D'Errico.

Performed by Natalie Trumm & Mila Henry // Libretto by Lauren D'Errico
